Searching for an Adoptee or Birth Parent at Adoption.com

Learning that you are adopted or giving a child up for adoption can both be tough situations to face. Fortunately, thanks to the Internet, it is now easier than ever to find those that you have lost through adoption. Adoption.com is just one place where adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents can come together, post profiles, and reunite with each other. If you are looking for someone who has been adopted or are looking for a birth parent, the profiles at Adoption.com would be a good place to start.

How to Search Adoption Profiles at Adoption.com

1. Go to www.adoption.com.

2. Once there, click on the reunite tab.

3. From there, click the reunion registry link on the left side-bar menu.
4. Fill out the form under Find the person youre looking for. This will be on the right hand side of your screen. Search options include: Adoptees date of birth, where the Adoptee was born, adoptees gender, adoptees first name, adoptees last name, and/or a word or phase by using the Advanced Search link

5. If you prefer, you can also browse adoptee listings by: Adoptees name, adoptees date of birth, state where the adoptee was born, the agency that conducted the adoption, country where the adoptee was born, or by adoption record.

6. You will receive a list containing every record that matches your search criteria. The list will show the adoptees name, date of birth, gender, and birthplace.

7. Once you find the person you are looking for, click their name.

8. You will be taken to their profile which has the possibility to include a ton of information, depending on how much information they have chosen to fill out. Such information may include:

- Birth & adoption details: Birthplace, birth date, gender, agency/Attorney, hospital, adoptees birth name, adoptees name, contact page if available, whether the adoptee was part of a multiple birth, birthmothers age, adoption date, adoption location, maternity home, orphanage, doctor who delivered the adoptee, local certificate, federal certificate, caseworker, case number, judge, and decree date

- Adoptee details: First & middle name, nickname, birth name (first, middle, and last), birth date, birth place, gender, height, hair & eye color, if they have a handicap, race, religion, if they are now married, if they have any brother & sisters, and if they are in the military & what branch.

- Birthmother & birthfather details: First, middle, and last name, nickname, maiden name (birthmother only), birth date, if they have a handicap, race, married at birth of child, married at adoption of child, age at birth of child, age at adoption of child, current or most recent occupation, old occupation, education, if they are currently married, if they have any brothers and sisters, and if they are in the military & what branch.

Adoption.com also has forums for adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents, or siblings of adoptees to receive support or to facilitate finding a loved one. It is important to remember that the entries at Adoption.com do not come directly from public records, they come from adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents who want to find each other. Therefore, if you are looking for someone who does not know that they are adopted, is to young to search for you, does not want to be reunited, or does not know about Adoption.com, you will likely not find them listed here. Even still, posting a listing yourself will give you a chance to find who you are looking for, after all, they may be looking for you too.
